Elohim & Echad: Singular or Plural

The Hebrew words elohim and echad are often used to support theological claims about the nature of The Almighty. But Hebrew grammar tells a more careful story. Elohim is plural in form yet frequently functions as a singular when referring to YHVH, while echad is simply the ordinary singular word for “one.” This study examines how context, syntax, and grammatical agreement—not word endings or theological assumptions—determine their meaning in Scripture.
