Hovah is Not Part of the Tetragrammaton

A common claim argues that the Hebrew word hovah, meaning “calamity” or “disaster,” is embedded in the Tetragrammaton and therefore affects the meaning of the divine name. This study examines why that argument fails linguistically, distinguishes הֹוָה (hovah) from הֹוֶה (hoveh), and explores the much stronger connection between יהוה and the Hebrew verb הָיָה (hayah), “to be” or “to become,” especially in light of Exodus 3 and the declaration אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה, “I will be what I will be.”
