Replacement theology takes many forms, from openly declaring that the Church has replaced Israel to more subtle teachings that spiritualize Israel’s promises, diminish Torah, erase Jewish covenant identity, or appropriate the name “Israel” for Gentile believers. This article examines the anti-Jewish assumptions underlying supersessionism, its influence on Christian theology, and the ways similar ideas can appear even within Messianic and Hebrew Roots circles. Romans 11 provides a different model: Gentiles are grafted into Israel’s olive tree, not invited to replace its natural branches.
