The Masoretes: Who were they and what did they do

The Masoretes were Jewish scribes and scholars who worked from approximately the sixth through tenth centuries C.E. to preserve the Hebrew text and traditional reading of the TaNaKh. They developed the vowel points, cantillation marks, marginal notes, and textual safeguards that allow us to read and study Biblical Hebrew with greater accuracy today. Although their work was not flawless and reflects a Jewish interpretive tradition that did not recognize Yeishua as HaMashiach, it remains one of the most careful and reliable achievements in the history of biblical preservation.
